Community Bulletin Sean Karson, Trinity Preparatory School senior, won the National Siemens Competition in Math, Science and Technology as part of a three-member team. They presented a mathematics research project, entitled "Relating Missing and Decycling Edges in Directed Graphs" and took first place in the competition. The Siemens Competition in Math, Science and Technology is the nation's premiere science research competition for high school students. Karson is the only Florida student to achieve the regional and national finals in this competition.
For the fifth consecutive year, Orlando law firm Dellecker, Wilson, King, McKenna & Ruffier used the occasion of its annual holiday party to support a local non-profit organization. This year, guests invited to the firm's Tuscan-themed event on Nov. 12 donated $6,000 to the Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida.

There is a growing trend of Park Avenue stores staying open later hours, Brett Wettstein of The Doggie Door said. Many are staying open late on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. It does focus on holiday hours, but many stores keep these hours regularly through the year as well. This growing trend on the street is further being pushed by newer stores like Earth Inspired Living, The Cheese Shop, and The Spice and Tea Exchange who started off with later hours. More than 800 people came together on Oct. 17 for "A Taste for Learning," which generated $388,000 for scholarships, including matching funds. Valencia Foundation and UCF Foundation partnered this year to present the international wine sampling and auction at Rosen Shingle Creek.

Business Briefs Orlando Business Journal recently ranked Palmer Electric Company the 10th largest specialty contractor in Central Florida for 2009. The poll, published in the Journal's Nov. 27 issue, notes the Winter Park-headquartered electrical services company who attained its ranking with 2008 revenues of $36.5 million and a staff of 350. Lowndes, Drosdick, Doster, Kantor & Reed, one of Florida's largest law firms, is pleased to welcome Theodore Shih to the firm. Ronald W. Lowry, AIA, was recently appointed to the Central Florida Veterans Memorial Park Foundation Board of Directors. Lowry is currently chairman of the board for RLF, a leading Winter Parkbased architecture, engineering and interior design firm. RLF will provide design services for the Veterans Memorial, which will be located adjacent to the Orlando Veterans Medical Center at Lake Nona, which is currently under construction.
