The dedication of the Purple Heart memorial will be at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14 at Lake Baldwin, 2380 Lake Baldwin Lane. "What we now call Veterans Day began as Armistice Day. It is historically significant that this day continue to be observed on the month, day and hour that the guns fell silent in World War I - 11 a.m., Nov. 11, 1918," Thomas Roberts, Commander of the Winter Park Memorial Post 112 stated. "Today, thousands of Americans are serving in uniform. They sacrifice in the war on terror and in hundreds of locations around the globe so we may remain free. They, too, are veterans," Roberts said.
Osceola residents join the fight against Alzheimer's disease at the Alzheimer's Walk. Registration is at 8 a.m. and the walk begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14 at Good Samaritan Village, 4197 S. Orange Blossom Trail in Kissimmee. The event raises public awareness, and funds for services for people with the disease, their families, and caregivers.
